Contemporary Shed House Renovation

This split-level home, originally built in the early 1970s, embodies the Contemporary Shed style popular from the mid-60s to the early 90s. The longtime homeowner, seeking to honor the house’s original character while ensuring long-term durability, prioritized low-maintenance materials for the renovation. The deteriorating siding was replaced with sleek, white Kynar-finished standing seam metal, and all doors and windows were updated for efficiency and style. Inside, the kitchen and dining areas were opened up, with added windows and doors creating a bright, airy atmosphere.

Inspired by the homeowner’s cherished blue Lapis ring, the new kitchen cabinetry brings a bold yet personal touch, while a portion of the original countertop was salvaged and repurposed. In a nod to the home's history, a section of its funky 70s bathroom wallpaper was preserved and framed as a unique feature in the updated space. The result is a thoughtful blend of past and present—preserving the home’s spirit while preparing it for decades of worry-free living.
