Bridle Path Renovation & Addition
This early 1940s home had a strong foundation of charm—original wood floors, a distinctive glass and wood folding door archway, a well-proportioned layout, and an exterior needing only a little TLC. While these elements brought the homeowner great satisfaction, the existing kitchen and single bathroom layout lacked the functionality needed for modern living.
To seamlessly enhance these spaces, two modest yet impactful shed-roof additions—each just 2.5’ x 8’—were designed to blend effortlessly with the home's original character. Though compact by today’s standards, these additions transformed the kitchen and bath into highly efficient, well-scaled spaces that remained true to the home’s 1,400-square-foot footprint.
Every detail was carefully considered in collaboration with the homeowner. Custom-built cabinetry maximized every inch, from shallow storage tucked between the breakfast nook and dining room walls to cleverly integrated pull-out drawers in the toe kicks—even a hidden pull-out water and food bowl for the family dog. Thoughtful classical detailing ensured that every update felt like it had always belonged.
Porter Architecture’s approach preserved the home’s historic charm while elevating its functionality, proving that even the smallest changes can make a home truly work for its owners.
